Ancestor Art tile covers the time period from the Uyghur Turks about 1000 years ago to the present day. Tile is named and known as 'KASI' in all historical documents. Known as the use of tile art; plate, vase, bowl etc. part of it was called EV ANİ, and the part that was laid on the wall was called KASI. All Ottoman archives confirm this. Çini came to Anatolia with the Seljuks. It is possible to see tiles in many architectural works they made in Anatolia. These works continue to exist in the provinces of Konya, Sivas, Kayseri, Malatya and Erzurum.

In the construction of an architectural work, a tile workshop is established in addition to stone, wood, workshops. The tiles required for that work were produced on site and mounted in the building. Therefore, there was no established center. The tradition of decorating with architectural tiles has continued its existence by developing from the Seljuks to the Ottomans. It can be said that the period of Fatih Sultan Mehmet is the first settled period in tiles. Because the 'Ehli Hiref Organization' (an organization consisting of artists) was established in the palace. During the Fatih period, Kütahya was one of the important tile production centers. Kütahya has met the orders of the palaces from time to time, and at other times, the tiles of many mosques, churches and synagogues have been manufactured in Kütahya and these works have been adorned with market-oriented works. In the historical process, Kütahya has been an uninterrupted tile production center, but the production in other places where tiles are produced has stopped and disappeared. These tiles produced in the palace are known as Tekfur palace tiles today. It is said that masters from Kütahya worked here. Another enterprise, Abdulhamit II, gave importance to tiles and had the Yıldız Tile and Porcelain factory established. Again, most of the masters go from Kütahya. Somewhere, Kütahya is the place where this art is carried out in a master-apprentice relationship and where manpower is trained for this art. It still is. The first Collective Bargaining Agreement in the World between the employee and the employer was made in Kütahya in the Tile business line. (July 13, 1766)

When it comes to the Republican period, tiles are produced only in Kütahya in our country. In fact, in the textbooks of these schools, "Kütahya is a city famous for its tiles." It is known that some china cups and plates that were needed at that time were produced and exported in Kütahya due to the fact that the Far East was at war in the Second World War. It started education and training in 1984 in Kütahya Industrial Vocational High School for the first time within the scope of vocational education by the Ministry of National Education of Turkey. Today in Kütahya D.P.Ü. Tile art education is given in Industrial Vocational High School, Apprenticeship Education and Public Education Centers. Every family from the people of Kütahya is related to tile, and tile, which is an important source of employment, is an industry in Kütahya. It continues its existence successfully with workshops that produce mud and glaze, workshops that prepare the form, workshops that make decorations, and facilities that produce ovens and machines. The products produced show themselves in every field.

The art of tiles, which has existed in Kütahya for about six centuries, still continues with all its splendor. What is Kütahya Tile: Tile, which has existed in Kütahya for six centuries, is described as 'AK TILE' in the ceramics literature. In particular, Kaolin, whose alumina does not exceed 17%, creates a mixed infrastructure of silica, clay and calcium. These raw materials can be prepared in different recipes. The glaze forming the transparent glassy layer on it; Quartz can be mixed with soda, lead or boron, and different recipes can be made within this framework. It is produced in Kütahya ceramics and is called 'Stone Çini', and it is produced in a different structure with a mixture of 80% quartz clay and glaze.

Tile; It is produced in the sequential technique. After the sludge shaped by various methods (Casting, Pressing, Plastic) is dried, biscuits are fired at approximately 1,000 °C. Patterns drawn and pierced on parchment papers are transferred to the form with coal dust. The pattern, which is contoured with a sable brush, is painted with oxide pigments and after glazing is applied, it is glazed fired at approximately 870-950 °C2. Therefore, the pattern and color show themselves under the glazed glaze. Motif and Pattern in Kütahya Çini: Motif and pattern are like the relationship between note and composition. The motifs used in Kütahya ceramics today are anonymous and a part of our culture. " For example, tulip, rose, carnation, crocus, lily, hyacinth and many more motifs form the elements of the pattern. After briefly explaining the relationship between motifs and patterns, we can group the styles and patterns used in Kütahya ceramics under four main headings.

1. They are multi-axis patterns with an uncertain beginning and end, in which especially carnation and tulip motifs are drawn by connecting them with spiral branches, produced in Kütahya with a naive understanding and transferred directly onto the form by the artist. It is seen only in Kütahya tiles. Any color used in tiles can be used.
2. Classical tile patterns of the 16th century, these are our very large, anonymous patterns that have cost our culture. We have workshops and artists who successfully apply their originals.
3. New Designs: This application is important for the development of our tile art. It is the preparation of new patterns, such as new compositions, in the classical style, rather than the repetition of the same things. This is also extremely important in terms of the relationship between form and order. New patterns for new forms, different patterns add richness to our art.
4. The styles and understandings developed by our masters and artists. For example, the interpretations of Sıtkı Usta, the understanding of decor and form developed by Alopaşalı by emphasizing the turquoise secret, the colorist understandings that bring color to the fore before the pattern called Millennium, and the application of the art of marbling to tiles. Therefore, all of these constitute the identity of Kütahya tiles.

Historical Kütahya Tiles, as a traditional art and a heirloom profession, have decorated historical buildings such as countless mosques, tombs, palaces and mansions. With this feature, Kütahya Çini adornment has adorned countless architectural works both in and outside of Kütahya with its immortality, rather than just a color, a line and a motif sequence, and has survived to the present day.
