Arapgir Purple Basil is a unique plant from the Lamiaceae family. The leaves are 5-10 cm long, 3-6 cm wide, soft and dark purple. The cup leaves of the flowers are purple, burgundy and dark green. Body length is 8-15 cm, diameter is around 1-1.5 cm and it is colored in light-dark brown tones. Arapgir Purple Basil is unique to the region and is completely purple in color. The essential oils of Arapgir Purple Basil are analyzed by Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry, and components such as 1,8-cineole, linalool, methylcinnamate stand out. The purple color and aroma of this plant, which does not contain estragole, is obtained by natural agricultural practices.
The method of production of the plant begins with sowing the seeds in the seedling growing areas in March. Watering and maintenance is done regularly. At harvest time, shoots and leaves are cut and dried in the shade. Irrigation is done in moist soil at intervals of 4-8 days, while fertilization includes the use of organic matter.
