Manisa Mesir Macunu is a paste that consists of 41 different spices and herbs. Hafsa Sultan, the wife of Ottoman Sultan Yavuz Sultan Selim, mother of Suleiman the Magnificent, who went down in history as Süleyman the Magnificent, fell ill at a time while in Manisa. Merkez Efendi, who was brought to the head of the Sultan Mosque Madrasa built by the Sultan, who could not find a cure for his illness, prepares a paste made of herbs and spices. Hafsa Sultan, who regained her health by eating this paste prepared by mixing 41 kinds of spices and herbs, asks patients to be given this paste. Upon the increase in demand from the public, he wants the paste wrapped in papers to be scattered to the public from the domes and minarets of the Sultan Mosque, which he had made himself. Since that date, the public gathered spontaneously in front of the Sultan Mosque on March 21st every year and this date is celebrated as Manisa Mesir Festival. This tradition, which lasted for 477 years, made Manisa Mesir Macunu enter the cultural heritage list.
