Endemigo’s promise to you

The product you choose
should be the product described to you.

The high pasture a honey comes from, the tradition behind a cheese, the loom on which a carpet was woven… We work to make sure every detail that creates value is conveyed accurately. We examine before the sale and take responsibility after it.

The language of geographical indications

Know the value behind
the mark on the packaging.

These emblems make visible the link between a product’s name, its geography and its production rules. When we assess registered products at Endemigo, we read the emblem, the registered name and the product file together.

On Italian packaging you may see DOP or IGP; on French packaging, AOP or IGP. The product’s registered name and production conditions complete the meaning of these marks. PDO and PGI define different geographical links; we do not rank one above the other in terms of quality.

This section introduces the official marks you may come across on product packaging. Each product’s registration details are given in its own product description.

Other marks that protect tradition

Production know-how is heritage too.

Traditional Product Name in Türkiye and TSG in the European Union are separate schemes that protect a traditional composition or production method. They do not mean the same as a geographical indication. We present products in a way that preserves this distinction.

Beyond a label

Trust begins with knowing the product.

The region where a cheese is made, the material of a handmade piece and the weaving technique of a carpet are all part of the identity that makes it special. We assess that identity together with the product itself and its documents.

Over roughly five years of preparing our infrastructure, we have developed category-based acceptance, sales, marketing and operations processes. Our expertise, which runs from our category directors to our operations team, rests on knowing what a product is and how it should be verified.

GI-registered and authentic.

For GI products, we take the registration, the production specification and the conditions for using the name as our basis. For authentic products, we examine the producer, the origin, the material, the production method and the traditional character.

We also present an original craft product that has no GI registration under its own identity. In the product description, we keep the distinction between registration and authenticity clear.

Before the store, trust

Acceptance to Endemigo is a process.

We prioritise working directly with the producer or the main supplier. A store application goes through an assessment in which both the product and the person offering it are examined.

01

Identity and source of supply

We examine the producer, the business and the authority to sell the product. With main suppliers, we assess the supply link that leads back to the producer, and its documentation.

02

Documents and product file

We enter the product’s analyses, the required certificates, and its origin and production information into the system. For GI products, we check compliance with the registration and the specification.

03

Sample and expert review

We carry out the physical examinations and tests each category requires. We assess food, textiles, ceramic tiles and antiques against the criteria of their own fields of expertise.

04

Contract and acceptance for sale

Stores whose assessment is found satisfactory sign our contracts. The authenticity commitment, product information and seller responsibilities form the basis of the sales relationship.

05

Listing and presentation check

We take care that the listing matches the product and that origin, contents, dimensions, material and condition are described accurately. We ask for any necessary corrections before the sale.

06

Responsibility throughout the sale

We monitor customer reports and store compliance. Any store found to have sold a product that is not authentic is removed from the system and not readmitted; we apply contractual sanctions.

A honey producer’s journey.

The producer uploads laboratory analyses and the required certificates, and sends a product sample to Endemigo’s headquarters. Our gourmets assess the sample, and the necessary tests are carried out at universities we work with in partnership. We consider the sensory evaluation and the scientific review together, and make the acceptance decision on the basis of the product file.

Expert review

One piece,
more than one pair of eyes.

For gourmet, antique and collectable products, we work with our network of volunteer and independent experts who specialise in their fields. We value having specialists from different fields assess a product’s quality, origin and authenticity together.

3 + 1

At least three experts.
One catalogue curator.

In our auction categories, including carpets and kilims, we require the approval of at least three experts and one catalogue curator. We apply the same standard to auctions organised by stores. The curator takes responsibility for the catalogue narrative and the presentation of the product.

Standing up for origin

The world’s treasures, our shared responsibility.

International dialogue.

We maintain contact with representatives in different countries, producer organisations and institutions working in the field of geographical indications. Our contacts with organisations such as TÜRKPATENT (Turkish Patent and Trademark Office), WIPO and oriGIn are part of this global approach.

We embrace a way of working that is open to the review of product and supplier information by the relevant rights holders and competent authorities. From Italian pasta to an Anatolian weave, we care that origin information is properly protected.

Resolute against counterfeiting.

A geographical indication is tied to a place, to production know-how and to the right to use that name. In Italy, counterfeiting geographical indications and protected designations of origin is an offence specifically governed by Article 517-quater of the Criminal Code.

The seizure of counterfeit Pasta di Gragnano IGP products in 2023, and the reporting of a company representative to the public prosecutor, is one concrete example of this protection. We, too, work to keep counterfeit products off the platform by considering documents, samples, expert review and the source of supply together.

When you choose an authentic product, you help the reward for the work reach the real producer. Women producers, master artisans and local communities can only keep producing when culture lives on in everyday life.

By your side after the sale too

We stand behind our commitment.

If you have any doubt about a product’s authenticity or its declared origin, create a support request. We will start the review with your order number, product photos and any label or certificate details.

For products found not to be authentic, we take responsibility and accept the return. We carry out the review of the product and the seller, remove the store from the system and apply contractual sanctions.

Keep the documents, preserve the story.

Keep your invoice, product record and any certificate together. For one-of-a-kind pieces, these documents form the basis of the onward journey of ownership and resale.

Every product is covered by our authenticity guarantee. We state the scope of the printed special certificate and the digital record in the product’s own description.

Your questions

Clear questions, clear answers.

Does the authenticity guarantee apply to all products?

Yes. We commit to the authenticity of the products sold on Endemigo. The scope of special printed certificates and digital records is stated in the product’s own description.

Does every product go through the same tests?

Checks vary by category. For food, we rely on documents, analyses and any necessary sample tests; for antiques and handmade pieces, on an examination of origin, material, technique and condition.

What should I do if I suspect a product is not authentic?

Create a support request with your order number and product details. For products found not to be authentic, we take responsibility and accept the return.

Choose knowing its worth.
