Hand-woven carpets and rugs take the most important place in handicrafts in Malatya's Akçadağ district, and Akçadağ Carpet has been known not only in Malatya but also in the surrounding provinces for a long time. In the yearbooks of the Ottoman State for Akçadağ carpets, "Kürne (it is a neighborhood within Akçadağ, its new name is Küçükkürne), many carpets, rugs, prayer rugs, upholstery and curtains are woven by the Kürecik tribes and women in the Hasan Çelebi township. It is astonishing that these acceptable rugs and carpets have evolved in such remote areas.” The dominant color in Akçadağ Carpets is red, and black or dark blue is frequently used together with red. To obtain the basic colors, the natural colors of the wools are used to dye the yarns. When laying the floor of a room, two or three thin and long carpets are preferred depending on the size of the room.
